Ayahuasca for Childhood Trauma

As part of my master’s thesis, I investigated how Ayahuasca, a psychoactive brew from the Amazon region, can support adults with childhood trauma. Childhood trauma affects between 33% and 47% of people worldwide and is associated with significant long-term consequences. These include not only emotional distress but also an increased vulnerability to physical and psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Additionally, childhood trauma often alters neurobiological structures, impairing stress regulation and emotional processing abilities.

Ayahuasca: A Guide for Safe and Transformative Ceremonies

Ayahuasca, a traditional plant brew from the Amazon, has been used for centuries in shamanic, spiritual, and therapeutic ceremonies. Its effects range from profound insights to intense emotional and spiritual experiences. However, before deciding to participate, it is essential to thoroughly inform yourself and choose a safe and reputable environment. This guide is designed to help you make a conscious and well-informed decision. What is Ayahuasca? Ayahuasca originates from the Amazon region and is a plant-based brew made from two main ingredients: the Ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and a plant such as Psychotria viridis, which contains the psychoactive molecule DMT. This combination produces a powerful, multi-hour effect on the mind, body, and soul, often described as visionary and transcendental.

What is Gestalt Therapy?

Gestalt therapy is a humanistic-existential psychotherapy approach developed in the late 1940s by Fritz Perls, Laura Perls, and Paul Goodman. Its goal is to support individuals in their personal growth—whether or not psychological disorders are present. By integrating physical, emotional, and mental levels, it provides a foundation for lasting transformations. With a focus on self-responsibility, the ability for self-support, and the conscious experience of the here and now, Gestalt therapy helps clients expand their agency and live more authentically. The dialogical exchange between therapist and client is a central tool for healing wounds from past, often challenging relationships.

The Great Call

"What are you waiting for?" it whispered mysteriously from the silence within me. My inner voice had grown loud, echoing clearly and long since finding its way into my dreams. It was too late to ignore it—its contradiction resonated too strongly within me. And yet, I was content with my life. Driven and successful, I had achieved many goals and built an impressive framework of accomplishments—always ready to climb the next rung. Then, out of nowhere, this question emerged, reminding me of an innocent dream my rational mind had wisely forgotten.

Student of Life

Since I began listening to the teachings of my soul, I have learned much and perhaps unlearned even more. Life reveals itself naturally when I give space to vitality and life force. Patience is a necessary practice—to trust in the breath of life so that things can mature. Nature teaches us this through its cycles and rhythms of growth and decay.
